Harlingen Texas Attractions
The beautiful Texas Rio Grande Valley near Harlingen offers a very wide range of activities that will fill your time here. The RGV hosts a number of internationally recognised bird-watching sites and more than 500 species have been identified in and around it. With nine sites in the valley designated as World Birding Center, you can be part of one of the largest and most diverse bird sanctuaries in the world. This makes it a great destination for many migratory birds as well as bird watchers from all over the world.
There is also a Gladys Porter Zoo where children can visit the animals and learn more about them, as well as a children's zoo.

The Iwo Jima Museum and Gift Shop is part of the Marine Military Academy and is located in Harlingen near Arlington National Cemetery. The three-section museum complex is located at the intersection of Interstate 35 and I-35 in downtown Harlingsen. It is located on the banks of the Arroyo Colorado River, serving passengers on the route between Beeville and Brownsville. The lighthouse was opened as a state park in 1952 and is still the only lighthouse in the state of Texas and one of only a handful of lighthouses in Texas.

The VA Health Care Center in Harlingen is dedicated to caring for veterans and their families and also serves regional health needs.
The visitor center includes a battle-focused museum and a memorial to World War II veterans of the U.S. Army and Navy. The murals depict the Battle of Gettysburg, a major battle in the American Civil War and a significant piece of history.

Next to this monument, which contains a number of artifacts from the Marines and other military personnel, is another visitor center, which offers an interactive exhibition of what is behind the monument.
You can pick up self-guided hikes to various locations, including the city of Harlingen and several other surrounding cities, such as San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Fort Worth and Austin. If you want to visit one of the towns and villages located 40 miles east of Harlingen, you'd better filter through the city. You will see that you can use the public transportation system, the Texas Department of Public Safety or the local police.

Be ready with all the amenities that will make your stay more enjoyable and with activities around the city, its attractions and its people.
Harlingen has all the restaurants and shopping facilities you would find in a city of this size. It is located near the Gulf of Mexico and next to the Los Indios Free Trade Bridge. If you're out and about for sightseeing, relaxation and ocean views, it's a short walk from the city to the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, which stretches across the Mexican border to Brownsville.
